MT Special Olympics (Law Enforcement Torch Run) has raised millions of dollars and changed attitudes by engaging law enforcement officers statewide to be champions of acceptance and inclusion.
The Law Enforcement Torch Run® (LETR), launched in 1981 by Wichita Police Chief Richard LaMunyon, has become a global movement raising over $1 billion for Special Olympics. LETR unites law enforcement officers—Guardians of the Flame—with Special Olympics athletes to champion acceptance, inclusion, and awareness for individuals with intellectual disabilities. Their mission is to inspire communities worldwide, proving that with hope, love, and dedication, achievement and self-worth are possible for everyone.
