The Hollins & Hollins Mortuary Entertainment Show is, first and foremost, The Pine Box Boys. The show behaves like an old-time 1930s radio program, featuring tongue-in-cheek ads and songs from various fictional bands—all performed by the same core members.
The Pine Box Boys are known as darkgrass darlings, offering songs in the tradition of the murder ballad. Their side projects explore everything from Tin Pan Alley to nightmare-inducing children’s tunes and horn-driven swing.
Lester T. Raww sings, plays guitar, ukulele, trombone, and kazoo. Alex “Possum” Carvidi handles banjo, sax, saw, piano, and accordion. “Gentleman” Jimmy Hadley adds vocals, guitar, and trumpet. Col. Timothy Leather and Slade Anderson round out the rhythm section.
Songs like “Pretty Little Girl” swing with sinister flair, and “Mr. Skeleton” channels Screamin’ Jay Hawkins more than bluegrass. The format blurs lines between characters and genres, expanding the band’s gallows humor worldview.
